Flourishes' Timeless Tuesday Challenge #226

Hello again and welcome back for another Timeless Tuesday challenge!  This week our hostess is the wonderfully talented Broni and she has challenged all of us to "Make a Splash"!  Create a card or project using watercolor, water scenes, colors of water, etc. (FTTC226).  You can read all of the details here.  The new In Nature stamp set immediately came to my mind for this challenge.  Those scenes are so pretty and they definitely fit the challenge so I stamped one of them on Flourishes Classic Ivory card stock with Memento's Tuxedo Black ink and pulled out my Copics.  Ok, true confession time here...I started out this project with the mindset of doing this as a watercolor.  The fact that you don't see that here probably speaks volumes...let's just say that it was not.  that.  great.  I think I need a little more practice with that medium.  It ended up in the circular file and I do believe it 'made a splash' when it hit bottom...lol!  Soooo, here is my image colored in Copics...

I kept this layout really simple because I wanted the nature scene and sentiment to really stand out.  This is a regular A2 card base from more ivory card stock.  The sentiment panel was embossed using an embossing folder leaving some space to stamp my sentiment. I also scored around the edges to give it a little more subtle detail.  A strip of patterned paper, dark brown layers and some ribbon finish this card off.  I want to go to this place!  :)  Here is a close up...don't you just love that stamp detail?!?

Ok, so now you need to go check out all of the wonderful water inspired cards that my teammates came up with for the challenge....you are certainly in for a treat!  While you're there, make sure you leave them a little love too.  :)  And after you do that, come on and upload your own creation for a chance to win a prize!  I can't wait to see what  you come up with!  I hope you have a great day and I'm so glad you stopped by!

S'more Fun-Flourishes' Timeless Tuesday Challenge #225

Hi everybody....welcome back for another Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge!  This week's hostess is  the ever so talented Denise and boy are you going to love this one!  For this challenge you should use scallops on your card or project....you can use punches, dies, scalloped ribbon, etc. (FTTC225). You can read all about it here.

For my card, I actually did things a little differently....I knew I just HAD to use that cute S'mores image from the S'more Fun set and I had in mind that I wanted a giant graham cracker as the background so I worked backward from there and incorporated scallops into the design!

I found the most adorable graham cracker file on the Silhouette site to use with my Silhouette cutter.  I wanted a little texture for my crackers and I rifled through everything I had in my craft room...nuthin'!  Soooo, I did what I do when I am in a pinch....I raided my husband's tool stash!  If you haven't done this, you should try it...they have ALL sorts of cool stuff out there just waiting to be used.  While I was pilfering through this treasure trove of possibilities, my eye settled on the belt sander...more specifically the coarse grit sandpaper for the belt sander.....I thought this may work, and it DID!  I just ran my little crackers with the sandpaper through my Big Shot, and Voila...instant cracker texture. I did have to cut up the sandpaper but I don't think he'll miss one piece, and it was for the greater good, after all!  I used my little Tim Holtz distressing tool along the edges to rough them up a bit and I really think they turned out pretty well!  You should've seen the happy dance going on in here!  :)   Here's a close up....

I hope you are able to see the texture in the photo. The out of the box technique was used for my focal image and I will admit it was a little tedious cutting but everything made it ok.  There is an awesome tutorial for this technique here.  When I colored the image with my Copics, I made sure to add a little char on those toasty marshmallows 'cause that is just how I like 'em!  My sentiment banner is inked up like a toasty marshmallow and... just for good measure I added a little white puffy paint to my marshmallow filling on my s'more...mmmmmm.

So there you have it, a S'more card made rummaging through my husband's tool stuff and he is none the wiser... :)  I hope you will play along with us this week and show us YOUR beautiful creations!  C'mon, it'll be fun AND you could win a prize!  If you need a little more inspiration, check out my team mates' blogs....you will certainly find it among those talented ladies....and while you are there, make sure you leave a little love for them!  And if you'll notice, there's a new name among the list....Cheryl Lea!  We're so happy to have you aboard, Cheryl!  :)

Flourishes' Timeless Tuesday #224

Hi everybody and Happy Tuesday....and you know what that means!  Time for another Flourishes Challenge.  Today is actually Day 1 of Flourishes' fabulous sneak peeks so  for the remainder of this week we will be sharing our newest stamp sets with you starting with the beauty you are about to see below!  Are you giddy, yet? Well, hold on, because there's more!  You could win the ENTIRE June release just by playing along!  Our hostess today is Allison and the theme is "Open Sesame".  What FUN!  You can read all of the details here.  For this challenge, create a card or project that moves or opens in a non-traditional manner (FTTC224).  In other words, create a card that doesn't just open normally.  Maybe it has a third panel like a trifold card or it has a greeting tag that pops up when you pull a ribbon...the options are limitless.  To help jump start those creative juices, here are a few examples of some great card tutorials:

Alrighty, now that we have a game plan in place, feast your eyes on this peek of a beautiful floral stamp set by Marcella Hawley...

Hello.... gorgeous, am I right?  This stunning new stamp set features a glorious spray of wildflowers along with some wonderfully heartfelt sentiments.  It will be a 'must have' on your shopping list this week!

I am already in love with this stamp set!!  This was perfect for the project I had in mind this week.  As it turns out, my dear husband and I will be celebrating our 10 year Anniversary soon....so, I decided to make a keepsake project for the occasion.  I am really not sure what you want to call it...I looked at several different  options and I guess I ended up blending a few together.  Honestly, I think it is what a Transformer would be if it were a card...lol...ok, my nephew is 7 and a HUGE Transformer fan..lol.  Anyways, I wanted a card, but I also wanted to be able to put some memorabilia in there in a pocket and I also liked the look of a pop up card, so I have all three!  There are several pictures here to help you get an idea of what occurred here....it was not pretty for a while in the craft room and if I had to do it over again, I would definitely do a few things differently, but for a first effort, I am pretty pleased and it will definitely do what I need it to do. Brace yourself, because there are several pictures here...

How about that gorgeous new stamp image?!  At first glance it looks like a regular card, right? But then...

The top flap opens up and reveals the first layer...

And here it is...hidden behind that little heart is a magnet.  There is a magnet in the card front too!  These hold the card shut because it is pretty thick!  There is a little pocket behind the heart too.  But wait, there's more!  Next, you can pull down the scalloped flap...

There is another magnet hidden in the top scallop of this flap to hold it shut to the back of the card.  When this flap is pulled down, it reveals the pop up segment of my card....

And tada!  There we are on our wedding day!  I thought it would be nice to have a small photo in this keepsake card. There is another magnet in the top scallop of this panel and then one more in the very back panel of the card....I know, lots of magnets here, but they seem to be working well to hold everything together until you pull apart each layer.  Hmmmm, I wonder if this thing will stick to the refrigerator...lol!  May need to test that later on... ;).  Ok, one more thing here, I did need to weight the back of the card down to balance it out, so I ended up using 4 pennies, and they worked like a charm!

This sideview shows the little pop up detail, the accordion style sides of my card, which is another pocket to hold things like a menu, movie tickets, or whatever mementos we have from our anniversary "date", and then a view of how the front panel folds completely back and acts like an easel of sorts.

Whew!  We made it!  But if you think that's something, wait til you get a load of what all of the other designers did...and I do mean ALL of the other designers, because today the Friends of Flourishes Design Team has paired up with the Flourishes' Finest Design Team to kick off our week of new releases!  Just look at that line up....you know these ladies are bringing it!  It ought to be quite something and plenty of inspiration to get you going!  So, come hop along, visit each of these talented designers and make sure you leave a little love on their sites while you're there!  Ok, clear off your craft table, pull out your stamps, and get to stamping...after all, YOU could win the ENTIRE June release!  Thanks for stopping by and good luck!  Can't wait to see what you all come up with!

AND if all of this wasn't enough, there is actually one more way you could win...

You need to find out who today's Mystery Blogger is!  Hidden among the Design Team is one Designer who has this set to give away.  Comment on that blog and you could win today's beautiful Picking Wildflowers set!  What more can you ask for?
